About RUTA EL CARDON and Over the Edge Baja.

In 1995, Troy Rarick, co-founded a fledgling mountain biking and rafting rental store in sleepy downtown Fruita, Colorado. The idea was to build a place for people to ride mountain bikes that was not Moab, Utah (no offense Moab, we love you)  To help people learn how awesome Fruita is, he and a group of other local Fruita peeps started the Fruita Fat Tire Festival. The goal of that first festival was a simple one:….. to bring fun friends and MTB enthusiasts to the area, celebrate the sport we love and have a killer time in the process.  Fast forward 29 yrs and Fruita is now a world-renowned MTB destination and that little store, Over the Edge Fruita, has grown to additional locations and is planning for more awesomeness in the years to come.

In 2017 Over the Edge started a journey to bring this same idea to Todos Santos Mexico. In 2018 Over the Edge Baja opened its doors to help make awesome mountain bike experiences happen in Baja California Sur. The town of Todos Santos is one of several Pueblo Magicos in Mexico. It certainly lives up to the billing of being a magical town, as it is in one of the most beautiful places on earth, where the desert meets the Pacific Ocean. The large cactus that dot the area are called Cardon cactus. They stand like sentinels above the other desert plants. We thought it would be fun to name this ride after this area’s iconic cactus since the trails surrounding Todos Santos weave in and around the cactus as the trails roll through the desert.

The RUTA EL CARDON ride is a recreational ride that rolls, climbs and descends through the desert of Baja California Sur. We want it to be a ride for everyone. Whether you live in Mexico, the United States of America, Canada or other places throughout the world this event is a place where we can frolic together in the desert on bicycles, having fun and soaking up the camaraderie that comes with doing events like this.

So, If you want to feel warm sunshine on your face as you ride your mountain bike through beautiful desert terrain, then after that eat delicious food, in a quaint Mexican town, we encourage you to join us.
